Booking.com Introduces Cutting-Edge Trip Planner Enhanced by ChatGPT Technology

Scheduled for launch on Wednesday, Booking.com’s new feature will combine the power of ChatGPT technology with their existing machine learning models to offer comprehensive destination and accommodation suggestions.

Booking.com announced on Tuesday its plans to test a trip planner feature, leveraging the capabilities of ChatGPT’s large language model, within its travel booking app. This innovative tool will allow a selected group of travelers in the U.S. to ask questions and create personalized itineraries.

Starting from Wednesday, the feature will utilize Booking.com’s existing machine learning models in combination with ChatGPT, enhancing the user experience by providing comprehensive suggestions for destinations and accommodations.

Rob Francis, the technology chief at Booking.com, expressed enthusiasm about the AI Trip Planner, stating, “Our new AI Trip Planner provides us with some really exciting possibilities to help our customers plan and search for travel options in a very natural, human way.”

OpenAI, a San Francisco-based organization, has developed ChatGPT, a highly advanced chatbot capable of simulating dialogue and providing responses. What sets ChatGPT apart is its ability to handle follow-up questions, acknowledge errors, question incorrect assumptions, and refuse inappropriate requests. This advanced functionality enables more engaging and realistic interactions with users.

The emergence of generative AI technology has revolutionized the tech industry, inspiring numerous companies to explore its potential applications.

Booking.com is set to introduce an initial version of the trip planner feature to select members of its loyalty program, “Genius,” in the United States in the upcoming weeks. This phased rollout allows Booking.com to gather valuable feedback and insights to further refine and enhance the trip planner experience.

In April, Expedia, a competitor of Booking.com, introduced a test version of its in-app travel planning experience that utilizes ChatGPT technology. This feature enables Expedia members to engage in conversations with the system and receive personalized recommendations for places to visit during their travels. By harnessing the power of ChatGPT, Expedia aims to enhance the user experience and provide tailored suggestions to its customers.
